Episode 23: Learning More About the Flipped Classroom
There seems to be no shortage of opinions on the flipped classroom model and in a post-pandemic, post-distance/digital learning world, those opinions have only seemed to solidify. When we first heard about the flipped classroom model more than a decade ago, we had our concerns. This was before our district provided 1:1 devices for students, before the vast majority of our students had reliable home Internet connections, and before the ubiquity of digital options to facilitate learning remotely. Needless to say, we were reluctant. But times have changed. Resources are much more robust. We have been converted . . . mostly. The flipped classroom model has a lot to offer teachers and can be a great benefit to students. While we didn’t do a full flip, we found a happy medium we believed worked best for our students. In this episode, we talk about ways flipping our classrooms helped increase productivity, allowed us to get more one-on-one time with students, and made us feel better about ourselves as teachers.
